The Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Chi at Pennsylvania State University needed to reconstruct the interior of their chapter house by 2008 not only to comply with local life-safety ordinances but to address inadequate electrical, heating, and plumbing systems. This was accomplished while retaining the attractive stone exterior.
Highlights:
-
Established study lounges and office/conference spaces available for group study sessions and special class needs
-
Afforded living facilities for full-time resident house director
-
Renovated kitchen, including “warming kitchen” for members so that meals can be taken together and food service operated efficiently
-
Installed suppression and alarm systems throughout the house to meet fire-safety requirements set forth by local government
-
Installed up-to-date and efficient heating, electrical, and plumbing systems
-
Installed data ports to all study rooms for broadband Internet and install wireless Internet throughout the chapter house where feasible
